Our FIT-Foundations™ classes work by channeling our dogs’ innate drives and desires. IE we can utilize our dogs' desire for a treat using various positive reinforcement training techniques (lures, rewards, targeting and shaping) to motivate and train our dogs to do the exercises and behaviours. Here’s a visual: we lure our dogs onto an unstable surface, their innate desire to maintain their balance will take over and they will struggle to maintain their balance for as long as they can. Its our job as their teammate to help them struggle to maintain their balance for longer and longer duration while being their advocate and setting them up for success.

As they improve, the challenges increase by a surface change and/or incorporating movements and behavioural cues. At that point, it is possible to incorporate behaviour modification techniques and behaviour cues with specific activities and exercises in order to improve or create the behaviours we want. This all occurs as a part of the exercises we are performing with our dogs!

In addition to our own unique FIT-Foundations™ Level 1 curriculum, we've incorporated Do More With Your Dog! novice level behaviours/tricks so teams have an opportunity to EARN their NTD (novice trick dog title)!

FIT-Foundations™ Level 1

An entry level manners (obedience) class with a twist!

Like most other entry level classes, FIT-Foundations™ Level 1 teaches ‘foundation’ behaviours such as:

  • SIT
  • DOWN
  • STAY
  • WAIT
  • COME
  • LET’S GO (loose leash walking)
  • WITH ME (heel)

UNLIKE any other entry level class, FIT-Foundations™ incorporates physical challenges using various pieces of canine conditioning equipment.

It’s the perfect blend of manners, fitness and fun for your canine companion! Your dog will not only learn the foundation behaviours, but by incorporating physical activity, we are able to add fun and exciting mental challenges to traditional dog training. You will be able to improve your dog's physical health and their behaviour at the same time!

Classes are held at our NEW location in Lacombe!

FIT-Foundations™ Level 2
FIT-Foundations™ Level 2 takes the basics to the next level!
We build on the manners and behaviours taught in our Level 1 class while adding in more canine conditioning exercises to strengthen our dog's bodies while working their busy brains for the ultimate mental/physical combination.  We strengthen our communication skills and add more behaviours to our toolbox in order to continue to improve the human-canine relationship and bond. The better we are able to communicate and have our requests understood by our dog, the less stress occurs at both ends of the leash and the more willing our four-legged team mate will be to perform the behaviours that are asked of them. Like us, the stronger their foundation is physically (core, stabilizers, etc...), the better able they will be to prevent injuries.  Maintaining a healthy weight and body composition is of the utmost importance for our four-legged companions as obesity corelates to disease and can even promote an early death.
By incorporating more physical and mental challenges, we can potentially lengthen our dog's life span while helping prevent injury and disease.
As a BONUS, for those who EARNED their Do More With Your Dog! NTD (novice trick dog title) in Level 1, we provide the opportunity for teams to EARN their ITD (intermediate trick dog title) in Level 2!

Tricks For Clicks

Our NEW Tricks For Clicks classes combine basic manners (obedience) with the relationship-building aspect of trick training!  Our relationship with our dog cannot be overstated as it is the foundation for trust and everything that we do!

The more skilled we are at communicating with our dog, the more we can do with them and the more they will WANT to do with and for us!

Numerous behaviors taught in this class actually double for basic manners but they also count towards your NOVICE Trick Title!

SIT, DOWN, TOUCH (nose target - disc, stick, hand), FOCUS, STAY, COME, LEAVE IT, LLW (loose leash walking), DROP IT/GIVE, KENNEL UP (send to kennel or bed) are some of the basic manners/tricks that your dog will learn. We will also cover BOW, PAWS UP, PLACE (pedestal), MAGIC MAT (unroll a mat with nose), FETCH, FIND IT, JUMP (hoop, bar, platform, knee, jump for joy), PEEKABOO (between legs), SPIN, and one BONUS trick such as SPEAK or RING BELLS to go outside!

These classes are not only FUN, they are extremely effective AND they build on one another to do more advanced behaviors and tricks!

Our 6-week program includes a clicker and the opportunity to prove your team's skills and EARN your NTD title (novice trick dog title) with Do More With Your Dog! (Note: evaluation and fees associated with attaining your title, certificate and ribbon are included!)

What is C.L.A.S.S.?

C.L.A.S.S., or Canine Life and Social Skills, is an educational program promoting training focused on the use of positive reinforcement and strengthening relationships between humans and their canine companions.

C.L.A.S.S. is a three-level evaluation for dog owners to demonstrate the real-life skills of their dogs, as well as a knowledge assessment of the owners’ understanding of basic dog handling and care.

The three levels of the program are named after human university degree programs: the B.A. for Dogs™ (Bachelor’s level), the M.A. for Dogs™ (Master’s level), and the Ph.D. for Dogs™ (Doctorate level). The skills in each level vary in the level of difficulty and distractions. Each level also allows for two “bonus rounds” that students may elect to try or not with their dog.

Objectives of C.L.A.S.S.

  • Promote Positive Training
  • Strengthen Dog/Owner Relationships
  • Encourage Ongoing Training
  • Value Real Life Skills
  • Educate About Dog Behavior & Communication
  • Promote the Value of Dog Trainers & Dog Training

This webinar introduces the APDT's Canine Life And Social Skills program (C.L.A.S.S.) It will provide an overview of each test item in the C.L.A.S.S. Evaluation, and cover the Rules and Guidelines as listed in the C.L.A.S.S. Student Handbook.
